Entering the Kingdom of God

This weeks service on the above passage was awesome. Some key words to focus on in the Mark 10:13-16 are indignant which can simply be translated as 'angry'. Another part that should be focused on is "I tell you the truth". This is a clear indication that something important is about to be revealed. Pay extra close attention to those words as your read the passage below:

Mark 10:13-16
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

As the most important part of this passage, to enter the kingdom of God, I must receive it like a child. Therefore, child must be defined. Chap Clark says that children have three main qualities. They are passionate, honest, and free.
  1. Passionate
Children are passionate because they are always interested in trying everything new regardless of their performance. As an adult, the only thing I focus on is performance. So long as I make the grade. Whatever it takes, so long as my parents approve. So that my peers approve. Children on the otherhand are compansionate enough to want to try everything. Therefore, we as adults must strive to be passionate about what we do. Sanctifying success will not bring happiness.
  2. Honesty
Children are honest. They don't know how to lie. As adults, we are deceitful. We live in a deceitful society, where we all must protect our own hearts. Nobody wants to be hurt.
  3. Free
Children are free. They do as they please where we adults must hide our weakness with the hope that nobody make the discovery. Christians often time pretend, so they can fit in and not be found out.
