Learning Football

For many people, watching the National Football League play makes the game seem trivial. We expect such football players to perform to the best of their abilities on every play without realizing the degree of teamwork required to achieve such feats. Just this past week, we had a friendly game of flag football between friends. I was a blocker on offense. Because our team had never actually played together ever before, coordination on the field was a disaster. On every play, I would block, expect my quarterback to stay in the pocket. Play after play, he would get nervous and leave the pocket without my realizing it. By the time I realized what has happened, it was too late.

This is just a simple example of how communication between players on a team need to be well understood, which is often times more difficult to accomplish than one can imagine. And once lines of communication have been established, a miscommunication can still happen. Football is not trivial, no matter what girls tell you.
